Seagull Entourage Rustic Review – Another Fine Seagull
Seagull continues to make great guitars and the Entourage Rustic is no exception. It has a simple beauty that is bolstered by a great tone that is sure to please.
The Entourage Rustic by Seagull is a guitar that would be a nice addition to any collection. Whether it is a first guitar or your one hundredth one. It looks great and sounds even better.
The Canadian made Entourage Rustic by Seagull is a strictly acoustic steel-string guitar. It is based off of Seagull’s S6 Original Slim model. It has a dreadnought sized body with a select pressure tested solid cedar top. The back and sides are Canadian wild cherry. It has cream colored double binding.
It has an integrated set neck made of silver leaf maple. The fingerboard is made of rosewood with 21 frets. The nuts is made of TUSQ by Graph Tech and has a width of 43.6mm (1.72”). There is a Double function truss rod that can be accessed through the soundhole.
The bridge is made of rosewood and is topped with a compensated saddle also made of TUSQ. Semi-gloss custom polished finish gives the guitar a nice look. The rosette is a herringbone pattern. Tortoise shell style pickguard protects the top from pesky picks. The scale length is 631mm (24.84”).
The rustic burst is not only nice looking, but is also there to serve a purpose. It is hiding mineral stains that make the otherwise perfectly sounding top to look less than perfect. Instead of discarding the wood Seagull found a better way to use it.
The top of the guitar has a compound curved top, which is a Seagull design feature on all of their acoustics. The top is more curved above the soundhole near the neck to allow for greater structural integrity with less wood to inhibit the sound. Below the soundhole the top is flat to give more power and projection.
Seagull claims the tapering of the headstock makes the tuning more stable by having the strings reach the nut with a straighter line. Enclosed chrome tuning machines that are branded with the Seagull logo have a 14:1 ratio.
There is only one strap button on the lower bout of the guitar. The dimensions of the body are: the upper bout is 289mm (11.38”), the lower bout is 403mm (15.87”), the waist is 268mm (10.54”), and a depth of 124mm (4.9”).
The available options are: Quantum I electronics and TRIC case.
The rustic burst is very nice and blends well with the stained wild cherry. The wood grain of the wild cherry pops real nice. It has a simple beauty.
Seagull necks are generally beefy, but the Entourage Rustic has a slimmer and narrower than Seagull’s normal. It is a very comfortable neck that is also fast.
The tone has very articulate notes with a warm depth. It is the brightness of the maple and wild cherry being tamed by the cedar top. It sounds very mellow when fingerpicked, but then has a real nice jangle to it when played with a pick. The balance between the registers is excellent, and in typical dreadnought style the dynamic range is very wide.
- Beautiful tone that is articulate and warm.
- Slim comfortable neck that feels fast.
- Excellent use of wood that would be discarded because of appearance.
- All Canadian made with Canadian materials.
- A case is not included with the price of the guitar.
