Hello all! I've just had my strat fitted with a new neck and set up properly, and until I changed strings it played absolutely perfectly and stayed in tune even with pretty excessive whammy bar use. However, having now changed strings on it for the first time I'm having some major issues with my tuning - mainly with the 'b' and high 'e' strings, but especially on the 'b' string.
Any pressure whatsoever on the whammy bar puts it it very sharp, however a bend of 2 or 3 semitones puts it very flat, and no matter what I do I cannot rectify the issue. I've oiled the bridge and nut, I've changed the string (twice!) and I've tried stretching the string so much my fingers now hurt. I've even tried changing the angle of the bridge. Like I said, all the other strings are behaving themselves as per usual so I'm completely flummoxed as to what the problem is!
The additional problem is that I have a gig later this evening, and it's the first gig with a new originals band and as I'm the lead guitarist there isn't many songs that don't require a lead line, solo or whammy bar use - none of which is a particularly appetizing prospect while the 'b' is misbehaving like this!
Any tips would be much appreciated!
Check the Intonation on the B and E strings
Submitted by Guitar101 on May 9, 2012 - 22:59.Check the intonation on the b and e strings, then check the springs on the tremolo. If you don't have a locking nut use graphite to lube the 3,2,1 strings slots. Let us know.
