Intelli IMT-500 Clip On Chromatic Tuner
[IMT500]
$29.95
Date Added: Wednesday 02 January, 2008
I found everything about the IMT 500 chromatic tuner was great - except one thing. It isn't accurate enough. The design is really good. I love it. Easy to use clip on that swiveled to face me. Neat green back light. The price was also just right. That it doesn't register the low E string - or is very slow registering Low E, isn't a big deal. If it was accurate, I would rave - it does everything else so well. But accuracy is everything in a tuner isn't it.
I tuned a Taylor 6 string using the IMT 500 and found I had to make very small adjustments to get it right. Then I tuned a Taylor 12 string - this time using the IMT 500 as well as an old Matrix SR-1000 (not chromatic) and found a significant difference. The sound of the guitar improved markedly when tuned correctly using the Matrix SR-1000.
I'm saddened that I can not recommend this product.
I have a Qwik Tune which I also find inaccurate and too influenced by nearby instruments. I have (had) a Planet Waves tuner that came included in a box of D'Addario strings. I loved it, but it was cheaply made and broke. Too bad.
I guess it's time I spent more money and bought a better range of tuner.
