Hi guys, I've only been playing for a year or so, pretty much self taught, but lately been having trouble focusing. just been playing around with a few easy songs, getting frustrated trying to learn easier solos, like the short one on thunderstruck..
I decided to try to learn a song by listening to it. I chose stiff upper lip. Can you tell i like AC/DC. Ive gotten to 5 seconds and still cant figure out the first 4. it's fun but hopefully it'll get better. don't want to look at a tab for it.

I'm kinda stuck with practicing scales too, end up just falling into the same pattern for the pentatonic... and trying to come up with a solo, i end up just playing a scale almost straight through, almost like an exercise.... it's starting to get annoying, starting to wander if i can express myself through the guitar. I hear guitarists say they can stay on one note for ten minuits and express their feelings, but i can't seem to do it for 10 seconds without it becomming monotonous...

Anyway thanks for listening

Let me look into the bag o tricks...let me see...oh heres one

Try skipping strings when playing...this can create emotion when playing lead guitar.

E--------5---------------
B-----5------------8-------
G-----------------------------7----
D-7----------7---------5-----------
A----------------------------------5---
E-------------------------

You can do alot with just a couple of notes. For example when people speak they say it different then you as everybody has they own way of saying things. Same with the guitar when playing solo'd riffs etc...

Notice the bold word in each saying below is in a different place. Imagine playing a pentatonic and the 5 notes go with the 5 words. When you get to the bold word play that note louder or play a trill, bend etc... basically making it stand out over the other 4 words.

I went to the store
I went to the store
I went to the store
I went to the store
I went to the store

You end up with 5 riffs... get the point.. Corny but it works!
