So for Christmas i got a Fender Starcaster (not Stratocaster) beginner set for $250 dollars. It includued the guitar, a Fender Frontman 15R amp a little booklette and some other stuff. When i started playing i realized that the top string (the sixth string) was touching the first fret. so when i plucked the string it sounded like a gong kinda. anyway... we are going to return it to the store. the question i have is this: (1)should i just return it all and get the same exact thing at the same price? OR... (2)should i return it, get back my $250 tehn spend a few hundred more and get a fender startocaster started pack. Or (3) just build my own beginner set-up by buying each individual piece. If you think i would be better off with a different starter pack plz recommend it, also i have really no idea what amps, or even guitars are the best value. I have about a $500 dollar budget.

Thanks

I've seen Fender Starcasters before at Costco a while ago. I think you should spend your money on something of better quality, because most of the non food items at Costco are not great quality. I suggest you go to a Guitar Center or music store around your area and try out some other guitars. That's the only way to know what's right for you. I think you'll be ok with a $500 budget. I suggest trying out some epiphones; they're in your price range, and cheap enough so you can buy an amp as well. Some of the smaller crate and fender amps come in your price range. Epiphone alos has a Fat-210 starter pack that seems ok, but the only way to find out is to try out some different guitars.
Good luck!

thanks for the tip. i went to a guiatar center and look at some guitars. im leaning towards the Fender Stratocaster that i looked at, not too expensive but it looks like it should hold up pretty well. One of my main problems with the starcaster was that it wouldn't staty tuned for more than 5-10 minutes of playing.
