Hi!
I've just started to pick up electric guitar, my friend has lend me his Boss ME-30 effect board to use. However I'm not sure about eq, reverbs and stuff. I'm unfamiliar with the board and effects. Usually what kind of sound electric guitar uses? Is there any instructions online or anything that i can learn about effects? what are the basic effects to set on the effect board? Any advises?

The most common effect for guitar is Reverb as it gives your sound space kinda like playing in different rooms varying in sizes. Chorus is also very popular as it adds depth to your sound. Chorus works by doubling the signal coming in and off setting it making it sound bigger. Flanger is the same it's just offset more. Delay ia similiar to a chorus, flanger with a large offset causing the delay/repeat sound. EQ is adding additional Frequencies to your sound. Add more bottom end Bass, Mids or high end treble........

Use your eyes and experiment with the sounds..

Hope this helps.

here's something for you to mess with

Zakk Wylde Sound

Devices Used:
ME-30 - Distortion Equalizer Chorus Wah Pedal

Sound Description:
This is how I get Zakk Wylde's sound. I recommend using a Les Paul or similar guitar with humbuckers. Use the neck pickup as much as possible to get the heaviness, but you'll probably need to use the bridge pickup to nail the Artificial Harmonics.

Settings:

OD/DS
Type:Metal
Drive:100
Tone:+20
Level:75

EQ
Treble:+10
Middle:-14
Bass:+14
Level:-4

Chorus
Rate:70
Depth:45
Level:80

Wah Pedal on standby

--------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----

Metallica Sound

Sound Description:
This is the best sound of Metallica I had made, but maybe when you try it, you could say: this is to distorted for the first strings. Well if you didn't knew Metallica technique for this thing, I'll tell you: Just make a Palm Muting(needed strings), you'll realize that this is the way they do their riffs.

Settings:
Guitar Icon: Humbucker

Compressor:
Sustain: 30
Attack: 100
Level: 40

Overdrive/
Distortion:
Type: Metal
Drive: 90
Tone: 25
Level: 35

Equalizer:
Treble: 2
Middle: -6
Bass: 8
Level: 2

Noise suppressor: 65
Pedal: Volume:B

Master Level: 70

I would try a little reverb a touch of chorus a dab of compression and slice of deay for leads. Just because you have 9 banks don't mean you need to use them all

Experiment that's how you learn really. The patches above where meant to get you started.

Good luck

I have been using this board for only 2 days, unfortunately when everything is pluged in and power is on there is no sound. I've checked my electric guitar and amp nothing is wrong, only when the effect board is plugged in there is no sound, the LCD screen is still working. Anything i can do?

Also check if the volume on your effects is turned up
Most likely you have the cables backwards

I dont know this sound board but i can give you one advise some one gave me once.

If you got some money to spend find your self an amp that sounds good on its own(maybe with an overdrive channel) and try to use as little effects as possible.

For me most tube amps do the trick.
I only need a distortion pedal, everything else is just guitar and amp.
