Hey Nick what's up!

I was faced with the same thing when I first started writing my own tunes. The thing that helped me was copy parts of songs you already know and change them up a little to make them your own. This will help in many ways.

1. Show you how songs are arranged.
2. Trigger your creativity and more.....

Don't think for one minute there's not a formula for writing songs.
It's hard to see the guys from say Metallica,Linkin Park etc... behind the scenes working out versus, chorus, bridges for hours.....

Hey were all human here right!

So basically go with what you know just make it your own.

Look how many guitarist ripped off Jimi Hendrix
A good example is Stevie Ray Vaughn, but he made it his own!

Hope this helps
Brian

I agree take what you know and change a note here and there to make it your own.

Pay close attention to the structure of a song and you will catch on.

Trying to develop your ear will help a lot. Just listen to something and try to find it on the guitar.start with simple stuff first.
learning basic theory will help. If you understand how chords work together in the same key , it saves you a lot of trouble figuring things out. Learn a few pentatonoc scales, too.
