My son is interested in starting guitar. He's 10 going on 11. Looking for
advice on what guitar to start him on. Full size, 3/4, electric or
acoustic, nylon or steel string? Appreciate any suggestions...looking for
something with a bit more quality/legs than one of those Wal-Mart specials
but obviously I'm not going to jump right in with an American Strat. |

Check out these two starter packages
http://www.theguitarfiles.com/modules.php/op_modload/name_CCart/id_101<
br />
Ones electric and the other is acoustic
Both great starter packages that will last for years to come.
I bought a electric works package for a friend of mines son for Christmas
last year. Can't complain for the money.
If I remember correctly it came with a strap, picks, tuner, amp, gigbag, cable
and the guitar.

We have over 100 different beginner and above guitars to choose from.
That's electric or acoustic.
The JBL Electric Works package is $209.95 for everything.
Is your son and average size 10 year old?
The reason I ask is because we recommend a 3/4 or standard size guitar if
he has small hands.
Let us know glad to help out.

i think a normal fender or squier for a starter guitar would be good or a
squier mini that would be my choice

I'm 13 and I was pretty lucky. My brother was in a band in HS and still
plays guitar now he's in grad school. He gave me his old Squier Strat when
he got his Taylor hybrid. I love it. However, for starters (even though I
did the contrary) I would suggest an acoustic from a reputable brand with
nylon strings. Steel may slice open his fingers but nylon should still
start to help him build calouses (sp?). As for size, go to a local guitar
store and just let him hold one and have him slide his hands up and down
the neck. Pick whichever is comfortable for him.
The reason acoustic is the way to go is that A) electrics don't get the
right sound with nylon strings B) they're cheaper and C) they don't require
an amp. Just be careful you don't get brass string. My lower 3 strings on
my acoustic are brass and they're too heavy for me to use so I can't play
it. I need to change those... ____________________ Fender Squier Stratocaster

a good starting electric guitar is a fender stratocaster selling brand new
at $500 or a fender squire
