Brian, I have only been playing guitar for about one year, I never even planned on learning to play the guitar, but last year one of my stepsons wanted a electric guitar for christmas, so with a very limited knowledge of guitars I went shopping in various music shops for a guitar for him.
Anyways to make a long story short, after looking at a few guitars I took a guitar down from its rack and held it as if I was playing it and it was then that I decided yes I want to learn how to play guitar.
I bought him a Godin SDXT electric along with a fender practise amp and all the other goodies that go with it.
I bought myself a Ibanez RG 421 electric guitar and a crate 15 watt practise amp and a few books to start off with, I was taking lessons all winter but all the guy was doing was writing me out a tab and getting me to practise it all week until the next lesson, and so on .
Because of this I stopped taking lessons from him, but am currently trying to find someone else to take lessons from, since I am from a small place, it is not proving easy.
I am now just getting information off of the net and buying more books and DVD's and getting something from each of these learning aids.
I have since had the original pickups replaced on the guitar with two Dimarzio pickups, a Tone Zone and a Air Norton, I also had the original nut replaced with a whalebone nut.
I have also purchased a Marshal AVT 50 watt amp and a Dunlop Crybaby Wah Wah, Danolectric Fab Tone Distortion pedal, Electro Harmonix Phase Shifter pedal and the one I like the most a BOSS SD-1 SuperOverdrive pedal, the Boss overdrive pedal is the last one that I bought and when used on the clean side of the amp iit produces the sound that I was looking for the whole time, so the other pedals are not used very much but that will change once I get more experience and can incorporate them more into different songs.
I am 48 years old and wish I would have started to play the guitar before, but as the saying goes. it is never to late to learn, now I am trying to get my timing and strumming patterns down along with some solo work( that is the only time that I use the BOSS SD-1 Overdrive pedal at the present time)
I am going over scales, I got away from doing the scales, but now after reading some more information I finally realize how important they are in relation to using the proper chords, I am just starting to see the relation and what chords to use with what scales, but right now I only know a hand full of chords, I am having a tough time with barre chords, but they are coming.
The music I am trying to learn is the blues, I love the blues, I have always loved the blues and some of my favourites blues artists are BB King, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Chris Duarte and Robben Ford, just to name a few, I bought a Robben Ford DVD to try and learn but it is way beyond anything I can do right now, after one year I am just starting to find my way around the fretboard when just fooling around and trying to come up with stuff on my own, I just do it by ear, if it sounds good to me I play it and try to come with some riffs, mind you I am still pretty slow but I am sure if I keep it up the speed will improve with time.
Well I hope I did not ramble on too long, I just wanted to let you know where I was at and thankyou for welcoming me.
Ken

Yeah sounds like you got the guitar bug now... Look out it's very addictive Don't worry it's a good thing!
I was a private teacher for about 12 years and got alot of students from other teachers because as you said the other teacher would tab out a bunch of songs and that's it. Why get a private teacher just post your questions here or check out our files...... There's chord/scale generators here that will help you too and it's free....

You say you like the blues!

Do you know your Pentatonic scales yet???
Do you have the dom chords down yet???

If not let us know we will do some custom lessons for you!!!! FREEEEEEEEEEE......
Did I mention FREE
Most of us around here are blues jazz buffs
We like Rock too of course.

Keep in touch
Brian

Greetings,
I was pleased to see a link to this site on a dogpile search and also enjoyed seeing the news of the ShadowStand posted here... Not sure who's responsible for that happening but I'd like to say thanks... You see, I'm the designer.
Regards,
marcos

Hi Brian,
Thanks for asking... Yes, stands are in production and shipping... It's amazing how long things can take to get up and running, but such is the way of the world.
Next week at NAMM a number of manufacturers will be featuring the stands on display... Seymour Duncan, Rick Turner, Minarik Guitars and Martin to name a few.
The Martin ShadowStand is a brown version with brown leather with and the 1833 C.F. Martin logo is embossed in gold on the headstock; looks wonderful and I'm pretty thrilled with all the acceptance and notice the design is getting, as you may imagine.
There's a few other pretty interesting things afoot and I'll keep you posted as they begin to see the light of day.
Once again, I'd like to say thanks for including some of my design efforts on your site Brian, it's truly appreciated.
