My son and I have stripped down a 30yr old Rhythmline Tele copy of mine,
and are rebuilding it with new parts.
One problem, the Rhythmline had the jack in the face of the guitar, at the
bottom of the switchplate. Since we are using standard Tele replacement
parts everything comes set up for the jack to be on the outside of the
guitar.
Should I try to drill it out myself? Anyone ever deal with this sort of
issue before?
Thanks,

You can drill it out very easy. Use a forstner bit to bore out the cavity
on the outside of the guitar. Measure the depth of the jack itself, and
drill about 3/32 more than the depth. Then you will need to use a long,
skinny bit, no more than 3/16, and drill through the bore to the
electronics cavity. Take yout time and you shouldnt have a problem. As
far as the forstner bit size, use one slightly larger than the diameter of
the output jack. You should also make some pilot holes for the jack plate
screws as well. If you dont have one already, get a 6 in ruler that uses
32nds and 64ths. you can get them at harbor freight or northern for about
$1.00 or lowes might have them for a couple of bucks. |
