Hello,

This is a newbie question, but it is a specific one.

I have a Guild acoustic guitar which I recently had set up for 11-53 strings. I wanted to try a different string and went for acoustic flat wounds 10-52 (These particluar strings were recommended for vintage intstruments because they are low tension). I suspected that this might affect the action, but I went ahead and did it anyway. After the switch, I tuned up and the guitar played beautifually with the sole exception that any string played on the first frezz buzzes. I've looked around online and the only answer I can seem to find is that I will need to take the guitar in to have a new saddle put in or have the current one shimmed.

Can someone please confirm whether this is the only option?

Thanks for your time.

Steven

I would check the bow in the neck first! It may need a truss rod adjustment but hard to say since we can't see the guitar!

I agree the neck proberly needs to be adjusted as the tension has decreased. I've had this problem before.

when your guitar was set up for 11s, chances are the tech filed your nut down so the action was right for 11s. as the groove is a V shape, if you put 10s in the same groove it will sit lower, possibly too low for your guitar.
take it to a tech and see if you need the nut replacing (if you want to stay on 10s), otherwise go back to 11s.

as its buzzing on the first fret its most likely to be the nut, if the neck was bowed its more likely to buzz near the middle.

hope that makes sense
