I am attempting to install schaller tuners into an epiphone les paul that I have. My question is, the schaller tuners are wider towards the bottom of the machine head. Basically I believe the stock tuners are 1/4" and the bottom of the schaller tuners are 3/8". Does anyone have any experience with installing these on an epiphone LP? Should I drill to accomodate the size of the tuners? If so do I drill from the front or back of the head stock? The front of the head stock appears to be countersunk...is this reccomended too? One last question...If I should drill, do I increase the size of the whole by going from the actual size in increments of 1/16" ???? If anyone can help me it would be great...I apolojize for asking so many questions! THanks again!

Wouldn't it make more sense to get some tuners with the same specs as the originals?

I would get some tuners that fit instead of drilling unless you just have to do it.

I agree.
I've had to drill headstocks in the past and it's easy to mess up if you're not experienced

I wouldn't try it. One slip and you will have some major problems.

Get some tuner machines that already fit
