You can do alot with just a couple of notes. For example when people speak they say it different then you as everybody has there own way of saying things. Same with the guitar when playing solo's riffs etc... I put together a real simple approach to open your mind and help keep you out of those little ruts when playing leads...
Notice the bold word in each saying below is in a different place. Imagine playing a pentatonic and the 5 notes go with the 5 words. When you get to the bold word play that note louder or play a trill,bend etc... basically making it stand out over the other 4 words.
