Say It Then Play It

You can do alot with just a couple of notes. For example when people speak, they phrase words different then you. The same goes with the guitar, when playing solo's, riffs etc. Below we put together a real simple approach to open your mind and help keep you out of those ruts and make your phrasing more natural.

You will notice the bold words in the sentence below are located in a different place each time. Imagine playing a Minor Pentatonic scale and each of the 5 notes gets a word to form a sentence. When you get to the bold word play that note louder or play a trill,bend,hammer-on,pull-off etc... basically make the bold note stand out over the other 4 words. This is also called dynamics.

When you get this down try and make up your own sentences. In time this simple lesson can really improve your phrasing and overall feel. Good Luck!
