Learn The Notes On The Fretboard Quickly

Learning the notes on the fretboard is an extremely important aspect of playing guitar. Here are some drills for learning the notes quickly. Memorize Natural Notes on Low E, A, and D strings. The 7 natural notes, or musical alphabet, is A, B, C, D, E, F, G. Each natural note is separated by 2 frets EXCEPT B-C and E-F, which are 1 fret apart.

Use Reference Points such as the tuning frets (5th fret Low E string, 5th fret A string, 5th fret D string, 5th fret G string, 4th fret B string, and 5th fret high E string).

You can also use the 12 fret notes, for example, since these notes are E, A, D, G, B, E 1 octave higher than the open strings.
