Over the past several years, GARY HOEY has gained great notoriety and acclaim as the new instrumental rock guitarist on the scene noted equally for his unique sense of melody and soul as much as for his technical wizardry.
Over the past 10 years, Gary Hoey has established himself as one of the world's top instrumental rock guitarists, praised not only for his technical prowess, but even more so for his unique sense of melody and soul. Surfdog Records is proud to present his latest release, MONEY on October 19.
MONEY is the payoff after two years' worth of writing and studio experimentation. By combining killer hard rock riffs with modern-day recording techniques, Gary has emerged with a record that sets his course for the future without forgetting his rock and roll roots.
As with his seven previous releases that have now sold over 500,000 copies, MONEY demonstrates, once again, that Gary is clearly one of the most versatile guitarists in the world. Further affirmation of this came from guitar legend Dick Dale who, in a Guitar Player Magazine interview, named Gary as one of his four all-time favorite players along with Eric Clapton, B.B. King, and Andres Segovia. This eventually led to a collaboration between Dick and Gary for a revved up rendition of the 1962 classic "Misirlou" for Surfdog's MOM II: Music For Our Mother Ocean album. On the recently released MOM 3, Gary was again asked to contribute a song to the Surfrider Foundation benefit album series alongside such artists as Pearl Jam, Beck, Brian Setzer, Smash Mouth, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Paul McCartney.
Now a firm staple artist at rock radio, the album's title track, a new twist on a Pink Floyd classic, will surely follow the Top 10 path of previous Hoey singles such as "Hocus Pocus," "Peace Pipe," "Low Rider," "Linus and Lucy," and "Drive." Once again, Gary will make the rounds on the radio morning show circuit where his appearances have become legendary. He has criss-crossed the country countless times appearing on these highly rated shows in virtually every major U.S. city, including several appearances on the nationally syndicated Mancow Show as well as the Los Angeles-based Mark & Brian show. It is no wonder why Gary is now considered "part of the family" at most major rock radio stations.
In addition to working on his own albums, Gary is currently at the producer helm with American singer/songwriter legend, Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks, whose new album will be Hicks' first studio release in over 25 years! As versatile as he is talented, Gary never ceases to amaze in the studio regardless of which side of the control board he is standing.
