How do I know what size guitar to order for my Child? A guitar should not be too long a reach as to strains a child's arms and wrist. These guidelines are generalized and may overlap if your child is tall or short for his age. Consider these variables below.
General Age Groups/Sizes
- Ages 4-7= 1/2 Size
- Ages 8-12 = 3/4 Size
- Ages 12 & up = Standard/Dreanought/Classical
What are the sizes/lengths of the various size guitars?
Here is a listing of common guitar sizes.
- 1/2 - 30.0" (Student)
- 3/4 - 34.0" (Student)
- Standard - 36.0" (Student/Adult)
- Classical - 36.0 - 39.0" (Student/Adult)
- Dreadnought - 36.0 - 39.0" etc..... (Student/Adult)
Note: Dreadnought guitars are more for adults because the body is wider and some have longer necks. This could be a problem for a child when trying to learn, as it could strain their hands and arms. This could even discourage them enough to lose interest.
