i disagree that the bassist brought a new sound. He had no part in the
writing of the songs in st anger. He is simply performance. Whether or
not he will have a part in the writing of their new album is beyond me. It
doesnt seem to me tho that he fits in very much with the band. Thats just
me tho.

Just listen to the tunes with Cliff then with Jason and now the new guy.
Different sounds to me. Jason left because he didn't get the freedom of
input.
In general any new member in band will change things.
Maybe they should get some bass loops :giggly:
Metallica came in created a heavy sound like medadeth,slayer etc...
New bands are taking that further like God Smack,Korn and so on.
Is Metallica done for? Have they ran out of ideas? Who knows
they may hang in there like the Rolling Stones 
I rather listen to a band like Dream Theater any day.
These guys are all monsters musicians

| Metallica has done it before...I havent bought any of their albums since
and justice for all...There were alot of fans just like me who didnt listen
to the new metallica...So what happened...They attracted a whole new set of
fans with their more simple approach to their songs...The songs got
shorter too and less complicated...Dont get me wrong I like some of the
modern metallica however I never bought it...I like it and I dont...I
should listen to a whole album however the hits I didnt care for much...And
the lead guitar was not as complicated...Nothing new for me to learn on
guitar...They did it once and they can do it again...As far as the download
thing goes...I think music costs to much...Yet we have to pay the
artists/record companies or there wont be any new money from CD sales to
make new records...The industry would die. ____________________

James voice will never be the same tho. He quit drinking and smoking. His
drinking and the pains of his lost mother fueled a lot of the fire. His
smoking gave him that awsome ruogh voice and badass sound. Now he sounds
like an out of tune skool child just learning how to sing. i think he has
mourned and made things right with his mom as well. i just think they are
trying to force a come-bak that perhaps wasnt meant to be. In s ome ways i
think they should have just let their legacy be without fooling around with
it and trying to reek in as much fames and $$$ as possible. The guys r
getting old too. Some times you just gotta kno wen to quit and let it be.
Thats my opinion tho.

Time isnt exactly on metallicas side. I think this next album is one of
their last chances.

| Metallica has lacked since Justice. They will need to make a record with
writing on par with Justice, but with waaaaaaaaay better production to win
