Has anyone built a clone of the original Guv'nor pedal yet?
If you haven't you need to build this one... Awesome Marshall JCM 800 tone!
Here's the inside of my first prototype!
I added (1) extra cap in the tone section to to beef up the bottom a little
like a 4x12 cab effect! I proberly will add a few more pots in place of
some the resistors to get even more tone control.

Also notice the clear circuit board I used... :giggly:
This proves you can use just about anything to protype your effects. It's
actually a piece from a clear cd sleeve! I printed the pcb layout on a
piece of clear boxing tape and stuck it on the clear sleeve. I then put
another piece of clear tape over the layout to seal the ink, since ink jet
printers are not as good as laser printers! From there just make your holes
where the parts go and start populating the board. The hardest part is pont
to point wiring and soldering on the back. Take your time and everything
will go smooth. The key is to keep it neat as possible!
Being the board is clear it makes it easier to see from both sides and to
help eliminate mistakes.
I will post the pcb and parts soon! |

I believe the original opt amp used a TL073 but I used a JRC4558D instead
just like the old tube screamer TS808. I actually ordered a few TL073 to
try since I haven't heard them yet in this pedal. I soldered a 8 pin socket
so I can change the opt amps easy and check out different sounds! |

You gotta here this Marshall Guv'nor clone pedal through my 68 bassman head
with a 2x12 cab with vintage 30 celestions... Man it sounds good! Sounds
like a Marshall Plexi cranked on 10 !!!

I would say about $30 a little more if you want a nice diecast box, fancy
knobs etc... The vintage ones are going for over $200 right now. Sounds
amazing alot better then a tube screamer. Gary Moore uses the Guv'nor! |

Here's the same pedal in another case. I did add a toggle to switch between
2 clipping stages Ibanez symmetrical clipping and asymmetrical boss like
clipping.

I found this pic on ebay. The guvnor to me is like a Ibanez ts808 with alot
more beef and grit!
The Danelectro Daddy'O pretty much copied the Guv'nor circuit, but it
doesn't sound half as good. I bought a daddy'o and I will mod it into the
Guv'nor specs. Change about 4 or 5 caps and a few resisitors. ____________________
