I love this album. Every song is killer. The solo on "Child in Time" is
just amazing. |

The only track I've heard from this album is Child in time, for that it
gets top marks.
The only Deep purple album I've got is Machine head, on original 12 inch
vinyl that my dad gave me.

Its when you listen to the classic old stuff you realise just how terrible
"modern" rock is.
After a brief hiatus listening to various world jazz artists, i thought it
would be fun to return to some old rock and :giggly: hell yeah!
Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Free, Thin Lizzy, AC/DC, Iron Maiden- modern
bands like White Stripes, Oasis, The Darkness just don't compare, they
really dont. They lack in every department, not just in technical
ability.
I'd like to see any modern band write something as breathtaking musical as
Kashmir, Child In Time, Fire and Water, Emerald, Back in Black, Hallowed be
thy name etc.
They don't make em like they used to ____________________ Cough cough jazz cough cough |

The only band I like from that list is The Darkness, but only because they
don't claim to be anything other than an old skool rock band, they freely
admit thier influences and background.
I hate the ****e stripes, and the less said about Oasis the better.
At least the Darkness have talent, you can't deny that they write some
pretty rocking stuff and are pretty **** good with those Les Pauls.
I'm all for a old skool revolution, bring back the 70's, Led Zep, The
Clash, AC/DC, Van Halen, all that stuff, it's great and we all know it, we
just have to convince the rest of the world.
Now, where did I put my brainwashing equiptment? ____________________ Technology, not technique

I agree Telefreak, but alas, urban r&b, rap etc is top of most people's
lists now, and those who do like rock like it to be trendy and/or
"emotional" (i.e moaning about how they "dont know themselves", and need
waking up "inside", yawn). I blame grunge. While the idea of grunge was
interesting, it was obvious it was going to lead to this. While Van Halen,
Iron Maiden etc listened to Deep Purple, Free, Led Zeppeline and took on
that need for ability, todays bands had Kurt Cobain, who, lets be honest,
couldnt play, had limited musical knowledge, limited vocal abilites, and a
terrible tone ( sorry grunge fans, just my opinion). It is no wonder noone can
play anymore!
Its all about influences.
The Blues influenced Clapton and Hendrix
- the blues, clapton, hendrix, jazz and folk influenced Zeppelin
-the blues, clapton, hendrix, jazz, folk, Zeppelin influenced Deep
Purple
-the blues, clapton, hendrix, jazz, folk, Zeppelin, purple influenced Van
Halen
- etc etc
but now its crap, whiny emotional grunge influenced drivel trying to be
trendy.
Led Zeppelin couldnt give a F**k about being trendy or having emotional
anxieties, they were too busy banging busloads of groupies, taking more
drugs than most small nations and writing some of the greatest rock songs
ever.
And all that without ever bothering to release a single or do TV promos
Class.
Altogether now,
"It's been a long time since I rock & rolled!" :rocknroll: ____________________ Cough cough jazz cough cough |

There are some great bands and very talented players on the market as I
write this...DREAM THEATER with John Patrucci...perhaps one of the most
gifted guitar players on the scene today...also Ty Tabor and
KINGS-X...phenomenal musicians...Rock has taken a back seat to the hip-hop
stuff but there are still taleneted bands to be found...
I really think a new thread should be posted...this is way off topic...
