I have a lot to say about Jeff Beck,
First off, Beck was a huge influence on me..."Wired", "Blow By Blow", and
"There And Back" set me on the path of fusion rock....which I probally
wouldnt have dicovered without being introduced to the Beck albums.
I have two uncles who would sit in the garage during the summers when I was
a young kid, and play Beck O'la and strum along on their Rickenbackers...I
would always stay out of their way so they would let me hang out and hear
all the cool music...man those were the days...
I read somewhere that Beck had a temper and was hard to work with...oh
well...
Rating Beck I have to give him a 4.25 What he may lack in ability, he makes
up for in taste...he is probally the most tasteful player I"ve listened
to...
Every time I hear the riff from "Blue Wind" I want to pick up my guitar and
jam along...
Beck Rock's My Plimsoul baby!!!!!!!!!!

I have pretty much a braod spectrum of Beck albums, from his early Jeff
Beck group with Rod Stewart to his last three "industrial" type albums.
Where to begin? I'm not a fan of the earlier bluesy albums (I ve never like
the tone of Clapton, Page, Beck etc in the 1960s) but when he went into
blow by blow and wired then MY GOD, the man has the best phrasing on the
planet.
Cause we ended as lovers is still one of my favourite ever guitar
recordings.
His most recent stuff is mind-blowing. Listen to "brush with the blues"
from Jeff Beck, Who Else? for awesome modern blues.
My favourite Beck album is You Had it coming, "Rolling and tumblin" is
stunning, and "Nadia" is perhaps his best guitar perfomance- how, I mean
HOW does he get those notes?!
As for him lacking ability, who else on the planet can do that? He is
perhaps the most unique and original guitarist I've ever heard. If he took
lessons, played with a pick, learnt theory etc, he would probably turn into
Steve Vai, and wouldnt be Jeff Beck anymore.
my rating 5/5 ____________________ Cough cough jazz cough cough |

Perhaps you misunderstood where I was going with that....Beck is not the
most technical player I've seen or heard....but that dosent take away from
everything he's offered....he's one of my fav's....and as I said
...probally the most tasteful of all the players I listen to.
I read an interview with Beck...he was speaking about the three fusion
albums from the 70,s and I think very early 80,s (There and Back) He
stated he couldnt read music but knew enough about theory to communicate
his ideas....

No questions asked Jeff Beck is a 5
I like his approach to bending strings it's like using a pitch bend on a
keyboard.... awesome.
I also like how he ends on fourths to add tension to a lick/solo
He's too cool. Great inspiration.
It's hard to talk about someone that's this good. |

Avant wierd/cool, incredible imagination without compromise.

Plus, he's owned some seriously cool Tele's and Esquires, always plus

I guess I'm the outlaw then, I personally don't like Becks playing.
Overdone is the word
I seen him with BB King and I wasn't impressed

I've been a Jeff Beck fan all my life. Be it The Yardbirds or Jeff Beck
Group or solo stuff. He's had the best career over the last 40 years as far
as I'm concerned. |
