My 7 yr old daughter wants a guitar for Christmas, not sure if she wants
acoustic or electric but in either case I would like some suggestions on
what brand/type would be best suitable for a 7 yr old girl. I have no
experience in the guitar world and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

How are you doing?
The first thing comes to mind is costs.. I wouldn't personally fork out
alot of money just to see if your child likes playing or will stick with
it. Today's technology allows manufacturers to build guitars with cnc
machines, lasers etc.. so even low costs guitars stay in tune and look and
sound great. I would go with a standard size guitar for a 7 year old not a
dreadnought as it's too big to hold and the neck may be to wide. 1/2 or
3/4" will be too small and she will out grow it quickly. I guess I better
ask.....are you thinking acoustic or electric?

I am a little late to this post. I would agree with the previous response
to not spend a lot. (Under $200 for sure).
I would suggest an acoustic/electric guitar. It is an acoustic guitar that
has a jack to plug in to an amp. A lower end model will run you about
$150. You can always buy an amp later.
Buy what is called a 3/4 size (which is adult size) and not what is called
a dreadnought.
Ask to have to smallest gauge of strings on (or put on the guitar). Easy
for beginners.
Go to a guitar store like Guitar Center or Sam Ash and tell them what you
want. Don't buy any Walmart or Target stuff.
