Does anyone know of any famous girl guitarists? The only ones I really know are Sheryl Crow, Michelle Branch and Liz Phair. But they're kind of hippie/pop rock acoustic stuff.

I'm a girl and I mainly play rock and blues, but I realized that most girls who play guitar sort of stick to the hippie acoustic sterotype. Any shredders out there?

Don't forget Bonnie Raitt is a great blues slide player. Lita Ford is not bad for the 80's metal stuff..

Im not sure if there are any so called "female shredders"...There are no female shredders like Randy roads, eddie van halen, vai and the list goes on however there are female guitar players that I like...They usually sing and play guitar.

All I could think of for retro guitarists were...

Chrisy hines of the pretenders...(Excellent band in my mind)

Joan Jett...I like that song "thats why I hate myself for loving you"...I think thats the name of it...it rocks for a simple power chord song.

Nancy Wilson...I think thats her name...shes from the band Heart...they had some cool tunes through the years.

Liona Boyd...shes a classical guitarist...although some might not call what she does as shredding however its tough to play what she plays so I would rank her up there with the best female guitarist Ive ever heard...ummm...let me re-phrase that...shes one of the better guitarists Ive heard regardless of gender.

Jennifer Baten is the only pure female guitarist I've ever heard. She can jam with the best of them. Lita Ford can play a bit. She's O.K at best.
I'm sure there's some unknown's who can rock their butts off!

lavigne is just window dressing, a pop princess, about as punk as the backstreet boys.

How about Suzannah Hoffs from the bangles
