Wow, I can't believe I'm posting this in a guitar forum, but I think I just
need to make something clear. I see ALOT of hip hop bashing in many guitar
forums and other music related websites. I just wish to clear up a few
things.
I'm not talking about what you hear on the radio. Not 50 Cent and all that
extremely commercial garbage. I mean groups/artists like Common, Mos Def,
Talib Kweli, A Tribe Called Quest, etc. The latter group has very
meaningful lyrics. I'm blown away every time I hear a song by Common. Their
lyrics can be very intellectual and raise many social and political conerns
without talking about how much bling, money, or b****** they have. I think
alot of people bash hip-hop because they assume they all talk about bling
and such. Well, not all of them do, and I think it's pretty narrow minded
to make that assumption.
I just want to clear up that fact that hip-hop is not a garbage genre.
There are good hip-hop artists out there. I never thought I'd ever listen
to hip hop until I heard Common, and now I'm into hip hop artists like him.
I can understand if you have listened to a good sampling of hip hop
artists and don't like them, but please, form an educated opinion.

Everyone has their own opinions but I dislike hip hop rap or whatever they
call it.
I get tired of hearing the same lines --- jump jump jump and yo yo yo!
I rather hear robert johnson, hendrix,bb king tell me a story with their
guitars. I remember Bo Didley saying rap, hip hop is giving his kind a bad
name. Keep the blues alive.
Just my thoughts and I'm about as open minded as you can get. ____________________ Get the name to sell first then the trend makes millions. |

Overall I dont like Hip Hop/Rap...that doesnt mean there isnt a good song
that comes out once in a while thats not bad...I think I might like two rap
songs out of all the songs I ever heard.
one was a rap to staying alive bee gee tune...which is good.
Another one I liked was a remake of rappers delight...not sure who did
these songs however they are excellent...they are not your typical annoying
rap songs...they are done well and with the bee gee one they have the bee
gee chorus in it which makes it sound cool even though Im not a bee gee fan
it sounded really great...thats all Ive liked from the rap community...the
rest is annoying and the rappers today kind of suck compared to old school
rappers.

| I'm sure there may be something rap wise I might like but I don't have the
patience or time to listen to that style. ____________________ Get the name to sell first then the trend makes millions. |

I'l agree that a large percentage of rap is garbage. You just need to
filter out the good from the bad. Unfortunately, alot of the good ones are
very well known. I own one hip-hop album (Talib Kweli) and it's pretty
good.
Overall, I do prefer rock/blues. Just a smattering of hip-hop. |

I dislike hip hop for the music, not the lyrics.
It's all bass and no substance.
Chock full of samples becuase most of them can't even read music, let alone
play an instrument, and it gets played by braindead morons cruising round
town with thier stereos at full blast as if everyone else wants to hear it
too.
I cruise round town in my Mini with The Ramones or Hendrix at full blast,
just to wind them up.
My other favourite is to play some old blues or jazz really loud :giggly: ____________________ Technology, not technique

That's funny..... telefreak is right it's even worse in the states...
I don't normally listen to heavy hardcore music but when I pull beside a
car with the rivets and bolts rattling from all the sloppy bass playing I
turn up the most heavy chucking song I can find... I think it's funny
beacuse I know they don't like it...... :giggly: |

I'm not into that kind of rap. Not the Lil Jon or G-Unit junk. Most artists
I've heard are from the 80s/90s |

You like what you like. Rap is basically talking beats over a beat. Not
into it myself but it's crossed into today's rock music so I guess some
people dig it. |

Brian, it gets even funnier
I drive a Mini, and old mini
Slammed to the floor (the suspension has sagged) and seriously loud (don't
know why, it's a standard exhaust)
It's great following all these european and japanese cars with thier stupid
plastic body kits and ugly bling wheels.
These morons buy rubbish cars and then spend 20-30 thousand plus pounds
making them even worse :giggly: ____________________ Technology, not technique
