I usually use a guitar polish plus some Q Tips for those hard to get at
areas...as for the inside I would just wipe it clean as best I could
without spraying any type of cleaner however I will usually use the same
cloth I cleaned the outside of the guitar with which is usually damp from
the polish. ____________________ Treat people the way you would want to be treated. |

If you are going to use polish you are only going to trap the dirt in. Best
time to clean your guitar is when restringing. It also depends if you
change a string at a time or take them all of. Always better when that
strings are off. It gives you the chance to give the fret board a good
clean. Don’t use a household polish they have silicon or Teflon in them.
and if you ever need repair work done on the finish it is harder to do.
Here is a list of things that you will need for a good cleaning job.
A few micro fibber cloths 4
Cosmetic pads the bigger ones
Some Q-Tips for hard to reach places
0000 steal wool
a good brush
a vacuum with micro cleaning attachments
lemon oil or orange oil
a good high gloss guitar polish
and finally elbow grease.
Start by removing all the strings. Only if this is a new guitar, with your
hot breath blow and wipe with the cloth working it by small areas until you
have done the whole guitar.
If it is an older guitar and this does not work take a cloth and wet it in
hot water rigging it out completely so if feels damp to the hand then
working in small areas rub with the damped cloth and dry with a dry cloth
right away. After the body has been cleaned take a little oil on a cosmetic
pad can clean the fret board making sure to remove all the finger gunk that
is there. The oil will also replenish the wood so it does not dry up and
crack.
Take a plastic card and cut a slut in it the size of your longest fret. Now
with this guide place it on fret and with the steal wool give your frets a
good polish. Now give it a vacuum inside out. And if it is an electric
guitar take your plates off and give a vacuuming in there and the pots.
Give the jack and the pots a clean with contact cleaner. Close up the
plates and vacuum the pick up cavities. Tighten any screw or nut that may
have loosen. Once again give it a fast wipe with the damp cloth and dry it.
With the cosmetic pads apply a little polish (remember a little goes a long
way) never spray directly on the guitar. Rub with the pad and then buff
with a dry cloth always working in small areas. Then restring and have a
good play.
