Hey Telefreak have you tried the tone mod on your volume knobs yet??
I have a older Hamer Californian where I modifed the volume so when you
turn your volume down you lose no tone.
I can't remember the exact rated caps and resisitors
Do you know off the top of your head????

Let me answer my own question!!!!
AS YOU TURN DOWN THE VOLUME ON YOUR POT, YOU'LL RETAIN THE HIGH END OF
YOUR TONE (a capacitor's job) AND RESTORE THE LOW END OF YOUR TONE (a
resister's job).
Take a .001µF capacitor and a 300k ohms resistor and twist thier
spindly 'lil legs together "in parallel".
This requires merely soldering the newly 'parallel assembled' tiny
.001µF capacitor& 300k ohms resistor on the VOLUME control potentiometer
Try it out guys it really works

I've heard of it, but never got round to trying it.
Is it really as good as I've heard?
And where on the volume pot do you solder it? I.e. which terminals? ____________________ Technology, not technique

It makes a big difference and fixes the annoying loss of high end when you
turn your volume down.
How to:
There's 3 prongs sticking out of the volume pot.
Note that #1 is bent back and soldered to the pot itself.
Solder the newly combined 'parallel' unit between the two legs of the pot
that are used for connections.
#2 is also for the wire live to the jack output,
#3 is also for the wire live back to the switch/pickup).
That's it
Thanks

I haven't tried this mod on a Les Paul yet, but I see no problems
Les Pauls have 500k pots as strats have 250k

I've seen this in places with just the cap, and not the resistor -- has
anyone tried both, prefer one over the other, can anyone describe the
difference in sound? Cheers!

I've just tried the one I mentioned. I don't see why you would leave out
the resistor then again I'm not electronics guru.
I can say I have never seen this with just the cap. |
