Hi,
I'm a 16 years old musician, and I can say I'm quite experienced. In my
search of new challenges, I decided to repaint my first and only electric
guitar and customize it a bit. It's a Peavey Raptor 1 that I received when
I was 7 or 8.
My question is simple: What are the mistakes that newbies make when they
customize their guitar? What type of paint to use or not to use? What
finish should I put on it?
My guitar is already in pieces, anything removable was removed and the
first coat is drying.

The only mistakes I can think of are messing up the wiring or the truss
rod.
As for paint, you can use whatever you like, I've seen guitars that have
just had wood stain rubbed into the body and nothing else, it looked rather
nice for a Les Paul 
I personally just use car paint from an aerosol can, as long as you sand
the surface flat you should get a good finish, never put too much on in one
go or it will ripple like orange peel.
Keep the surface free from grease and dust or you run the risk of the paint
reacting and cracking ____________________

Thanks for the tips, I sand this ugly coat I've just put and restart
painting...

yeah, pretty much
I recomend 600 grit wet and dry sand paper, used with some warm water and
washing up liquid to stop the paper clogging up ____________________
