I installed the EMG 81/85 combo into my LTD F-200, and soldered all the wires exactly as the diagram shows. I am using 1 Volume, 1 Tone, and a 3 way switch that came in the guitar originally.

My problem is with the output jack and the volume know.

I only get sound with the cable plugged partly into the jack, when I push it all the way in I got no sound whatsoever.

On top of that, the volume knob is messed up. Starting from max low, I get no volume, louder, louder louder louder, to max volume and I once again, get nothing. So it's like both extremes are no volume, and it just scales up inbetween before cutting off again.

Any input on the situation? I've re-soldered a few times, and am about ready to take it to a shop and have someone else do it.

That's almost the exact diagram I used. The only difference is that instead of soldering the black wire that runs from the tone to the volume, to the switch, my diagram told me to solder it to the middle switch along with the volume wire.

Make sure you have the correct wires running to the input jack ring,tip,sleeve... sounds like their reversed.

I have the middle output jack wire (sleeve) running to the bottom (on the diagram) of the tone, which is also connected to a wire that runs to the top of the volume, that runs to the center of the switch. The tip on the output jack runs to the center peg of the volume know. Does that sound right? Hopefully it's just bad soldering, because I'm about to go back over it all.

I switched the Middle jack wire to the volume and the bottom jack wire to the tone (REVERSE OF THE DIAGRAM) and the output jack works fine now.

However, I am still having a problem with the volume knob...

Just wondering why your using the cap the way you are? from the tone to the volume? where did you get this diagram?

I have always seen one leg soldered on the outer lug of the tone pot and the other leg soldered to the top of the tone knob as a ground. Is this special mod?

Also do you have the wire from the sleeve of the output jack soldered to the outer lug of the tone pot, it's hard to see in the diagram?

Never mind I had another look at I was wrong.. Double check all your solder joints and make sure all the wires are going to the right place.

The wire from the output jack to the tone kind of confuses me as well. In the picture it looks like it is soldered to the bottom lug of the tone knob, but that lug is also connected to the top of the tone pot.

The lug is bent back and soldered to the top of the pot along with the 2 black wires.

I have resoldered several times to no avail. I'm just going to take it to a guitar repair shop and have them make it sound the way it should, I'm too anxious to play with it any more.
