brian - 7/20/2006 at 15:44 Has anyone built a clone of the original Guv'nor pedal yet?
If you haven't you need to build this one... Awesome Marshall JCM 800 tone!
Here's the inside of my first prototype!
I added (1) extra cap in the tone section to to beef up the bottom a little
like a 4x12 cab effect! I proberly will add a few more pots in place of
some the resistors to get even more tone control.

brian - 7/20/2006 at 15:52Also notice the clear circuit board I used... :giggly:
This proves you can use just about anything to protype your effects. It's
actually a piece from a clear cd sleeve! I printed the pcb layout on a
piece of clear boxing tape and stuck it on the clear sleeve. I then put
another piece of clear tape over the layout to seal the ink, since ink jet
printers are not as good as laser printers! From there just make your holes
where the parts go and start populating the board. The hardest part is pont
to point wiring and soldering on the back. Take your time and everything
will go smooth. The key is to keep it neat as possible!
Being the board is clear it makes it easier to see from both sides and to
help eliminate mistakes.
I will post the pcb and parts soon!
tattoo - 7/20/2006 at 15:53very cool. you da man. What optamp did you use?
brian - 7/20/2006 at 15:56I believe the original opt amp used a TL073 but I used a JRC4558D instead
just like the old tube screamer TS808. I actually ordered a few TL073 to
try since I haven't heard them yet in this pedal. I soldered a 8 pin socket
so I can change the opt amps easy and check out different sounds!
brian - 7/22/2006 at 18:38You gotta here this Marshall Guv'nor clone pedal through my 68 bassman head
with a 2x12 cab with vintage 30 celestions... Man it sounds good! Sounds
like a Marshall Plexi cranked on 10 !!!
Telefreak - 8/2/2006 at 01:21How much did it cost to put together?
brian - 8/2/2006 at 01:45I would say about $30 a little more if you want a nice diecast box, fancy
knobs etc... The vintage ones are going for over $200 right now. Sounds
amazing alot better then a tube screamer. Gary Moore uses the Guv'nor!
brian - 8/2/2006 at 01:54Here's the same pedal in another case. I did add a toggle to switch between
2 clipping stages Ibanez symmetrical clipping and asymmetrical boss like
clipping.

Telefreak - 8/8/2006 at 01:02What do the original Guvnors look like?
Guitar101 - 8/8/2006 at 02:05
I found this pic on ebay. The guvnor to me is like a Ibanez ts808 with alot
more beef and grit!
The Danelectro Daddy'O pretty much copied the Guv'nor circuit, but it
doesn't sound half as good. I bought a daddy'o and I will mod it into the
Guv'nor specs. Change about 4 or 5 caps and a few resisitors.
Telefreak - 9/12/2006 at 15:15Ah, right, one of those.
I've already got one, infact I'm on my second one after I gave the 1st to
my little bro.
I remember buying them new for £50about 10 years ago.
Never really considdered them vintage.
Are they hard/expensive to get hold of?

brian - 9/12/2006 at 15:22You can find them on Ebay from time to time and since Marshall released the
new Guv'nor 2 the orignals have jumped in price.
I call them vintage
Telefreak - 9/14/2006 at 14:09Sweet
Yeah, I noticed the prices getting silly a little while back.
I think that part of the reason is that they're better pedals.
I tried one of the new ones when they first came out, wasn't at all
impressed
tattoo - 9/15/2006 at 13:29It's crazy how they make a decent pedal then come out with version 2 that
just isn't half as good as the original.
If it aint broke don't fix it right
GuitarMuscle - 9/18/2006 at 14:20Brian could you build me one. What's the costs?
brian - 9/18/2006 at 15:32I don't have much time right now to build any. Ummm how much do you want to
spend that will determine how fast I build them :giggly:
Kidding I'm thinking around $125.00. The pedals include the best
switches, parts and enclosures. All hand built that's pretty cheap!
I also have options to add a toogle or foot switch for different clipping
from Asymmetrical (Boss Type Clipping) to Symmetrical (Ibanez
Clipping)
Optamp of your choice etc...
ToneClonePedals - 10/14/2009 at 00:43We have a clone of the Marshall Govnor we make. It is called Sherriff
Speedbrake, we have not released it yet. Check out our website to see what
we have. www.toneclonepedals.com
