I'm new and i just learned the first scale to Smoke on the water but thats all i know can anyone help me learn some stuff?

I own a Jay Jr. bk it is a pretty good guitar for beginners i guess i bought it from my friend down the road.
So far i have had to replace the b string but thats the only trouble that i have had with it.

Starting with a Blackmore riff? Thats great. I am sure you can find links to tab's for every level in this site, download them and learn them according to your skill level. But of course you also need to figure out some songs yourself.
AC/DC is a good place to start (and continue whichever level you reach) when you begin learning rock licks...but of course its different for everyone. Wait for further responses to see what people come up with.

Can you read tab?

I will give a brief explanation...When you look at the tab blelow its like as if you were to lay your guitar on your lap...the low E(thickest string) is closest to you.

the rest is gravy...if you can count you can read tab.

Just remeber 0 means open and no fingers are put on the strings...also remember that when two or more notes are together like the 2 4 5's in the example below then both notes are played at the same time.

lets begin... E----0-3-4--
these are single notes played on the low E(thickest string) 0 is open with no fingers on neck...3 is the 3rd fret on the low E(count up 3 frets...4 is the forth fret...count up four frets and place finger on the fourth fret on the low E string.

If you already know how to read tab then you do not need the info above...if you dont know how to read tab then I would learn it...if you have any questions just ask.

well i'm not a new guitar player..i knew and can play all basic Chords
but i dont know how to read tab and to speed my fingers..i mean how to play :whatman: that kind of fast lead solo like malmstein,joe satriani ect...??

now i'm trying to read/studying-understand the tab up there..that was given by all of you guys..thanx. :study:

Once you've got your basic chords down, I would try to learn the pentatonic minor scale - its a five note scale which is the basic blues scale. A lot of the great rock riffs are built on this scale. The country scale (also called "relative scale") is the same scale pattern just moved down three frets on the neck. Once you've mastered the pentatonic and the relative scales, you can combine them, which is what players like Hendrix, Page, Richards, etc. have done.

Tabs are a great way to learn, wish they were around back when I was a teenager in the seventies (they were very rare and hard to find in those days). A guy starting out learning today has a lot of great learning tools available today - online and in the magazines (plus guitar tab and theory books and dvds).

One of the guitar mags (Guitar One, maybe?) recently did a dvd on playing hard rock & metal...it covered a lot of territory (from the 60s to now) and explained it all real well. Finding a copy of that could definitely get you on the road to getting a good handle on playing chugging rhythm and some smoking riffs.

Or you can try something by U2 for example if you know the basic chords you can try One.

i personally think its RLLY bad to start on tabs RIGHTAWAY

u hav to learn the basics first
all the chords
stuff like the minors, the majors, theory, stuff like that
wuts the point of learning to play a song if u dont kno what it is
also if u learn the chords itl be MUCH easier to play the actual tabs to a song
