I go to a concert because I like the bands albums however upon leaving the arena i'm left scratching my head.

Worst concerts

Guns and roses -sound was muddy and couldnt pick out individual instruments that well.

The cult -sound was muddy and their show was boring.

Metallica - again it was muddy and all I heard was this clank noise coming from lars drums. It was horriable.

Best concerts

Stevie Ray Vaughn-His sound was excellent and not to loud.Just the right amount of volume.

Trooper-My very first concert and they put on a good show back then.

chrisC - 8/18/2004 at 15:26

warped tour. best of all concerts.

Spidercents - 8/18/2004 at 17:37

IS warped a band Chris.I never heard of?

chrisC - 8/19/2004 at 17:28

warped tour is a big compilation of about 50 bands. most of them are underground punk bands. but there are a few big mainstream bands that play there. like goodcharlotte and simple plan and other crappy fake punk bands. most of the bands are good tho

Spidercents - 8/19/2004 at 18:42

Is greenday cosidered punk because I like some of their tunes.

chrisC - 8/19/2004 at 21:12

yup

Spidercents - 8/19/2004 at 21:24

Greenday is the extent of my punk listening. There the only ones Ive heard that I liked.Maybe I should listen to more to get a better outlook on the this particular catagory of music.

Ozboy - 8/19/2004 at 23:42

I think the best band I ever saw live is U2. I dont know how they do a spectacular and still have a pub feal. You yanks were lucky are dollar did a nose dive and they didnt do the elevation tour here. Even if you dont like their music go see there concert its amazing. for those of you who know Australian music Midnight Oil (now broken up) and Hunters and collectors were excelent live. For the punk listeners look for aussie band The Living End. Their lead singer had a car accident a couple of years ago but they are recording and touring again if they goto the US go see them they have a lot of energy

Spidercents - 8/19/2004 at 23:58

I like midnight oil and INXS.

Ozboy - 8/20/2004 at 00:04

If you like the oils get your hands on there live album Sream in Blue. It realy shows them at their best.

Spidercents - 8/20/2004 at 00:32

What year was the live album put out.

chrisC - 8/20/2004 at 00:32

dont expect to hear great guitar. most punk is just simple bar chords. screamo is kind of like punk. screamo bands usually have good guitarist. avenged sevenfold, afi, the used and the early novemeber are some good examples of good screamo guitar.

Spidercents - 8/20/2004 at 00:38

ChrisC thats probably why punk was never my thing.I like really cool lead guitar. But hey,to each his own right?

Ozboy - 8/20/2004 at 01:29

Sceam in blue was distributed by Sony for Columbia in 1992. It also has a acoustic version of one of there early songs called Burnie that is unreal.

chrisC - 8/20/2004 at 01:45

yeah. the need to play hard gutiar parts is what got me inot zeppelin. punk is my favorite type of music but i needed to play different stuff if i wanted to progress. but i still love punk.

Spidercents - 8/20/2004 at 01:47

Thanks for the info ozboy.

Spidercents - 8/20/2004 at 02:04

And progress you shall chrisC and progress you shall

BlinkRocksHard - 8/20/2004 at 20:59

the worst cocert i went to was shine down the amps were way too loud i couldnt make out what they were sayin or playing

Spidercents - 8/20/2004 at 22:05

I never heard of shine down.Where and when are they from?

Rockdrigo - 8/21/2004 at 04:13

The best concet i have been to is a kiss concet is was asowme. a cool show(lights fire, etc) and great sound

Spidercents - 8/21/2004 at 22:03

I grew up listening to kiss...my brother had every album including their solo records. They put on a good show.Did you see the live concert they play on TV recently...good stuff...Kiss are really good song writers...What do think of the members of kiss personally...I love their tunes however in real life gene seems to be slightly full of it.He brags about how many women hes been with...and much more...Only someone who is insecure would feel like they had to tell everyone how many women they have been with.I dont get that...no one asked him yet he feels like everyone should know.I want to know peoples opinion of them in real life.I love their tunes however...Why does he feel like he needs to tell everyone hes been with thousands of women.Im just asking...It seems odd to me.

Fender - 10/23/2004 at 23:10

alice copper/ bernt a huge blunt there, bets time ever

Spidercents - 10/24/2004 at 15:11

Where did the eggs come from?

Spidercents - 10/24/2004 at 15:12

From a chicken dummy.

Spidercents - 10/24/2004 at 15:15

No I mean did you take eggs with you to a concert just to throw them at someone.

Am I talking to me...Am I talking to me :giggly:

metallica1432 - 10/24/2004 at 16:31

The best concert that i have ever been to is S&M from Metallica and the San Francisco Symphony. It proves that even two totally diverse types of music can come together and make one killer sound. After that it would have to be Woodstock. Then Waynestock . Das my opinion

Peace and Rock

Spidercents - 10/24/2004 at 17:53

waynesock...Is that from the movie waynes world?

elzee - 10/29/2004 at 04:00

best one i have ever been to has to be ozzfest 2004 just because black sabbath was there

worst ever was nelly my gf made me go to it it was the worst 4 hours of my life

Spidercents - 10/29/2004 at 12:23

Nelly!...I feel for ya man...Thats rough.

metallica1432 - 10/29/2004 at 14:47

i went to a metallica and godsmack concert and it was pretty good. metallica actually kinda suked tho. james voice has faded. Sully Erna of godsmack is awsome. they did a lot to make you part of the concert. it was great. nothing compared to s&m tho. A symphony fan was next to me and kept saying stuff under his breath about how inappropriate metallica is. i wanted todrag him out of the concert but i was too busy rockin out.

Peace and Rock

girlwithaguitar - 10/29/2004 at 16:02

the best concert i ever saw was Pink Floyd- the sound was amazing, the laser show kicked ass, and it was just an over all awesome show. the worst concert ive seen was probably 3days grace(before they hit it big). the singer still sounds like the guy from finger eleven to this day.. which is sad, considering that each person is different, so why would he copy?

Spidercents - 10/29/2004 at 16:33

To see Pink Floyd live would be on my top 5 list in concert viewing...I seen them live on TV and I think they put on a good show...I like David Gilmours slow lead guitar...lots of feeling and never boring... :applauding: :fretboard:

wess - 11/3/2004 at 02:06

One of my favorite concerts is simon and garfunkel live in central park, over half a million people, awsome show,i wasnt there in person but i have the video.
One of the worst i've seen in person was Judas Preist in 1988 with cinderella.cinderella was good but Preist was not at all.
I think it was the album they were touring for(RAM IT DOWN) because i really like almost all of there other music.
Also got to see pantara on V.D.P. with skid row that was great

Spidercents - 11/3/2004 at 02:25

I like Turbo Lover by priest...Very cool...Havent heard them live.

GraveDave - 6/17/2006 at 00:32

I'm an old dude (45) so keep that in mind...

Some of my favorite concert experiences:

Pink Floyd in '94. You guys are not going to believe this - a friend's old girlfriend was engaged to Floyd's extra keyboard player (not Rick Wright -a guy named John, I don't even know his last name, but he played on "The Division Bell"). She hooked me up with a BACKSTAGE PASS! Holy smokes! Before the show even started, John TOOK ME ONSTAGE and showed me Floyd's gear close up! He showed me his synths, his hammond, his Leslie, and I saw Gilmour's guitars backstage! Sheesh! My seat for the show was in the mixing console, which was a orb-shaped space-capsule-sized structure exactly the height of the stage, about 75 feet or so away from the center of the stage. After the show I went backstage where they having a small party and John introduced me individually to the band! I didn't really believe I'd get to meet the band so foolishly I didn't take along anything to get signed, but John got me a copy of the set list, which I had the main members sign. (this all seems like a dream now) - another great thing about the backstage pass was during intermission I got to use the same bathroom the band used - no line! (Plus I could hear the sax player warming up in the next room).

Rolling Stones - Clemson Stadium '89. I've seen the Stones 8 times and they're always great, but it was especially great to see them from the second row!

Stevie Ray Vaughn /B.B. King/ Joe Cocker - They played together in a blues festival here, almost exactly a month before Stevie died. They all did separate sets, but for an encore they all jammed together! Joe Cocker seemed a bit intimidated singing with Stevie and BB, but he got over it soon enough and it was one hell of a jam!

Black Sabbath/ Van Halen/ Ramones - Believe it or not, these bands all toured together, and I saw the show from the 5th row, center stage! It was Ozzy's last tour with Sabbath (halloween '78). Van Halen's first album had just come out, and they were smokin' (a lot of my friends said VH blew Sabbath away, but I disagreed because I've always been a big Sabbath fan). Hardly anybody here in Atlanta had even heard of the Ramones at that point, and most of the crowd didn't like them (Joey got hit in the face with an egg while singing). I liked them, but my high school buddies sure didn't ...all in all it was a great night (although a cop beat up a guy sitting right behind me...i)

Moe Tucker - most of you have probably never heard of her, she was the drummer for the legendary cult band the Velvet Underground. I think I saw her in '96 or '97.... Sterling Morrison, guitarist of the Velvet Underground, played with her on this tour. I actually saw them two nights in a row, in Atlanta and in Athens...the Athens show was the last show of their tour, and they kicked out the jams...the encore was a 20 minute jam on "Bo Diddley" with Moe's kids playing percussion, which was very cool. I went to the Athens show with a buddy who is an obsessive record collector and autograph hound ...after the show I wanted to leave (it was late and we had a long drive ahead) but he wanted to stick around...I'm glad we did. We got to go backstage and meet the band. I talked to Sterling Morrison for about half and hour, just me and him! He told me great stories about the reunited Velvets opening up for U2 in Europe a few years earlier, and that U2 had rented them huge stacks of Marshalls to play through. He told me stories about gangster midgets harassing him. He talked about his playing with the Velvets, saying he was trying to drown out Lou like Keith tried to drown out Mick....Sterling died about 6 months after that night I met him, and as far as I know that was his last gig. Definitely his last Velvets- related gig.

Buddy Guy - I've seen Buddy six times, but my favoite time was when I got to meet him! I'm a t-shirt artist, and I had been commissioned to do a shirt for Buddy, so I got a backstage pass, and got to get his autograph . It was so cool...I got to sit with him and his manager for about 10 minutes before the show on the tour bus. Buddy seemed really drunk, but he was nice as could be. He's a true legend - Jimi Hendrix used to record Buddy at clubs back in the sixties! Buddy really pioneered blues feedback, which Jimi took to another level.

Another great concert was the first Lollapalooza... what a great line up of bands - Jane's Addiction, 9 Inch Nails, Rollins Band, Souxie & Banshees, Ice T & Bodycount, etc. The second Lollapalooza was great too, Kirk Hammet played with Ministy on their cover of Sabbath's "Supernaut". That was one of the craziest crowds I've ever seen, when Ministry started plying the whole outdoor stadium turned into a mosh pit, and everybody started setting fire to their blankets! Police Helicopters were swarming around overhead, but they couldn't do anything about except watch everyone rock out! Other bands from that day were Pearl Jam & Soundgarden, before either band got huge. The Chili Peppers were the headliners and for the encore they did a cover of Jimi's "Fire", while wearing these crazy flaming torch helmets.

Probably the wildest show I've ever seen though was the first time I saw the Butthole Surfers.. When they hit the stage, Gibby was smoking a giant spleef that must've been at least a dime bag rolled up...I was right up front and got a toke! They had a naked girl with a boa constrictor dancing with them, they were projecting old Drivers ed films of highway fatalities over themselves while playing, with plenty of strobe lights and dry ice smoke. Gibby kept pouring lighter fluid on a cymbal and then lighting it, and when he hit the cymbal flames would shoot up to the ceiling. I thought we were all going to die!

I used to live in the basement apartment of a boarding house, and most of the upstairs tenants were musicians too. A friend of mine Ron (one of the best guitarists I have ever known, God rest his soul) was playing in a band that was jamming upstairs. I had never seen the drummer before, but he seemed to know an awful lot about the songs they were playing, he kept telling the guitarists the chord changes. Turns out the drummer was Sylvian Sylvain of the New York Dolls! Later on their regular drummer showed up and Sylvain switched to guitar - the band really started cooking then. It was a real loose jam, but Sylvain is just one of those guys who glows with talent - a real natural, who knows his stuff. I went down to my apartment, dug up my New york Dolls album, and got him to sign it after the jam. Ran into him about a month later at a club and hung out with him for the evening -a supernice guy.

Sorry I've bent y'alls' ears so much. Guess you can tell this is a subject I love to talk about! Never got to see Zeppelin, but I did see Page & Plant three times...which rate right up there also with the best shows I've ever seen.

the worst? Billy Joel. Saw him in the early eighties 'cause my gal at the time really liked him. He's not that bad a musician, just not at all to my taste. Another bad show was Aerosmith in '78...I love the band, but they were really too out of it to play that night....seemed like Joe Perry was playing a completely different song than the rest of the band at one point! Sloppy playing and a muddy mix to boot.

Hi Wess,
Yeah, I saw Simon & Garfunkle in their reunion tour in the early eighties. They played at the Georgia Tech Stadium and it was excellent! Wish I'd known their music better at that point, I've grown to really love their sound over the years. (The same girl who dragged me to Billy Joel talked me into going to that one, which I am very thankful for!)

rockingod - 3/23/2008 at 10:33

My favorite band is The Tubes. I saw them 3 times. The 3rd time I saw them they were playing a small bar in my town Bellingham, Wa. I went to get a beer before the show and realized that the tall man in a black leather jacket standing next to me was the tubes drummer Prairie Prince! I politely introduced myself and got invited backstage to meet the rest of the band! They were all there except for Fee Waybil the singer. They were very nice to me and I helped them drink the beer they had backstage. After the show, I followed them to a bar up the street where they had a table in the back reserved for them and I drank more beer with them. No one else but me dared to do so (but after all, we were friends now right?) They did not party hearty like I expected from a rock band, but I was young and dumb in '89. I will never forget that night. I am glad they treated me with such respect. Especially Prairie. A true gentleman. He signed my ciggarette pack "Prairie Prince hates cigs in 1989", but smiled about it. I'm glad they did not tell me to get lost. Have any of you drank beer with your favorite musicians?
I was very lucky to do so.
