Ok, Are you Experienced was Hendrix's debut solo album, and was a landmark in rock guitar.

For me personally it was the 2nd Hendrix album I had, given I started on the lesser know Axis:Bold as Love. But A.Y.Exp was instantly my favourite album! When Foxy Lady starts you just know that this is gonna be something special!

It features most aspects of Hendrix's playing, although it is not quite as experimental as the later albums. It has all out rock tracks like Foxy Lady, Purple Haze., Fire, Blues tracks such as the great Red House and pop rock such as Hey Joe.

My favourite track has to be The Wind Cries Mary, featuring some excellent chordal work, proving Hendrix was more than crazy Solo's and guitar burning.

So, if you want to get into Hendrix this is the place to start- undoubtedly one of the most important albums for rock music, and for the electric guitar.

My score- 8/10

What do other peple think?

Simply an album you should have at hand at all times.

Every time I hear "Are you Experienced" I hear something I never heard before. Really!

So many guitarist have taken his licks, now their kind of generic.

Some of my favorites tunes is RED House,The Wind Cries Mary...

Hendrix also had that great triad improvisation thing going.

The beginning note of the foxy lady solo sums up how great Hendrix was- Just listen, you'll know what I mean! It happens around 1.48, just after "here I come". Great note choice, great vibrato, great tone- gets me everytime.

Perfect!

Great album.
Children should be made to listen to it at school, that's what I call an education

"Purple Haze" is the all time classic in my book."Hey Joe"completely rocks to this day,and "The Wind Cries Mary" is so soulful..Yeah a must have album, for sure.

Ahh yes that is quite a landmark album. I like how experimental it is and how its opened up new doors in music. Purple Haze= instant classic. I love the wind cries mary because its not just "loud stuff", if you know what I mean.

9.5 out of 10
