I've never played guitar before and i am LEFT handed. My friend recommended these two guitars, Epiphone Les Paul Special II Left-Hander or the Squier® Standard Stratocaster® Left-Handed Electric Guitar. Im not sure which one to get? Can you guys help me out. Also if there is a better begineers guitar can u recommend one? Also can you tell me if i should order online or at a shop.

Ok, they're both very good guitars, although I'd take the epiphone over the squire because I considder the build quality to be better.
The question is, what are you gonna be playing?
Those 2 guitars will have very different sounds, if we know what style you'll be playing we can tell you which one to go for

im not sure what im going to be playing but some bands i like are rush, the mars volta, king crimson, the mahavisnhu orchestra, and led zeppelin.

I guessed mars volta from your name
Go for the Les Paul, Omar, Jimmy page and Robert Fripp all use humbucker pickups, so that's what you need

my cousin bought a les paul special, and he dropped it and the fretboard came unattached from the neck all the way down the neck and now he cant play it. plus when he did have it i always had to tune it for him mainly because hes retarted and didnt know how to toune but also because the tuners wouldnt stay. so basically that guitar sucks hard and i dont reccomend that you or anyone ever get one, plus there ugly and flat and uncomfortable to play, spend the extra $100 and get the lp-100 its got a carved top and it isnt gay.

You're doing well with the constructive posts lately Chris.
If he'd been more careful he wouldn't have dropped it and it wouldn't have broken, as for the tuners, why didn't you just adjust them for him?

Omarismyhero - 7/8/2005 at 08:15

i was wondering if i should just order online because its the cheapest or go to the shop and get it?

Telefreak - 7/11/2005 at 00:51

I prefer to buy from shops so I can get a look at the guitar first and see how it feels to play

Hey, out of those two i would take the epiphone over the squire. I have another suggestion for you: upgrade to the fender strat lefty. $349 and a pretty good deal.

chrisC - 7/17/2005 at 21:39

the tuners are to ****ty to be adjusted, and as for him dropping it i will agree that was careless but a good guitar should be able to withstand one accident.

Chris,
Gibson makes perhaps one of the worlds finest crafted electric guitars. The make is beautiful from the woods used to the finish applied. I'm speaking of the Les Paul customs and such. When you try to save money by buying the less expensive models, thats just what you get; a cheaper guitar.
It pays off in the long run to buy the best made guitar that you can. The gibson will hold it's value well, so its money well spent.

I agree Gibson makes some great stuff and I own a few acoustic an electrics.

Most of the less expensive models are made on C&C machins so there bodies and necks are flawless just cheaper wood like basswodd on the bodies and the necks are 2 - 3 piece etc... You can always exchange hardware, pickups, tuning machines etc...
There a billion doller business just in hardware, accessories for a reason.

The guitar will sound great and save you about $500 to $1000 dollers.

If your interest in having a guitar that will hold it's value then go with that type of guitar. You will pay dearly though.

I own both types of guitar as all guitarist should.

if your interested in a guitar holding its value i wouldnt reccomend "upgrading" it
