How cheap is your cheapest guitar?
and what kind of guitar did you get when you first started? and how much was it?

My first one was an Ibanez that came in a kit with an amp and such. I think it cost about $250.

mine was an old Ariana Acoustic I found in a hock shop for $50. I still have it too.

Been trying to find out a bit more about it, all I know is it was made in Japan, but I'd like to know when...

I bought a squire strat pack from fender it came with an affinity strat, tuner ,strap, picks and a 15watt amp.
Not a bad deal at $280.
It even has headphones (so you don't piss everyone off at 2:00am) my wife loves that part.

Is it better to get an accoustic, or an electric as your first guitar?
And do you have to go to a music shop or a guitar shop, or can you go somewhere like Wal-mart (that's where I got mine) to get a good one?

My cheapest electric was a Japanese Telecaster for £50 second hand
Idiots didn't know what it was, thought it was a fake because it had "made in Japan" on the back of the neck. FOOLS!

I think it's best to learn on an electric because of the lower string tension, it'sa bit kinder to the finger tips.

The cheapest guitar I have wasn't bought by me. My mom bought it when she was in college in England for...

*drum roll*

$7.50! It was a used classical guitar. It was her first guitar, and it was my first.

$7.50???? that's not fair! what kind of place did she get it in? A real guitar shop?

When my father was working in a prison, as a teacher, he put a project to turn prisoners into musicians. Anyway, long story short, after producing a crap album one of the students gave him a Marlin Slammer as a thank you for what he had done for them. My father, always an accoustic man, never used it and gave it to me when I started to learn, still got it and it sounds great.

So to answer the question, Marlin Slammer and FREE(my favorite price).

She got it at a place for used instrument store. This was about...25-30 years ago, though.
