i have just bought a new guitar (J. Reynolds JR-6) for $125 and still have the option of getting a package for 135 more. i was wondering if this package would be a good deal or to just buy amps, etc. seperate.

brian - 6/15/2004 at 02:48

Ouch we sell them here for $99 a piece....

The price your getting is bogus!

You want to pay more go for it!

it is impossible to give you the opinion you want when the main part of the package, the amp, is something you can tell us nothing about. "I'm buying a car for $500. Am I getting a good deal?"

Having seen how you got rooked on the guitar however, I would say it's safe to say that you won't get a good amp for the price.

thanks,

This package sounds a bit dubious, shouldn't the "whammy bar" have come with the guitar?
Are you sure it's not a guitar and amp package?

guitar4life - 6/16/2004 at 00:11

the amp is an rms, and the whammy bar did come with it--i was offered the package after buying the guitar, and i was going to think about it

g4l,

If you're just looking to get started and make some noise, I would go ahead and do it, but if you're really into it, I would plonk down just a couple of more bucks for a little larger amp. After a very short period of time, you'll have outgrown the RMS practice amp, and it will cause you to lose interest.

A Gorilla practice amp will be more than enough, and it's plenty loud for playing along. I used one for a long time when I first got into guitar. This would leave you 85 smackeroos to get the rest of the gear you wanted.

I also would suggest(for a little more money) a Marshall Mini-Stack(15 watts). I still have mine, and it was a great amp to play with.

thanks,
json

thanks schwim.....right now i am just trying to get something to add a little sound to the guitar, and maybe in a few months when i get a little better i will take up your suggestion and get a gorrilla amp--i have a 12watt now, so i might go up to the gorilla 20 w later.
thanks,
josh

I use a little 20 watt RMS for practice only...I've been using it for years...it is what it is... (A practice amp)
If you just need an amp to get going and do a lot of practice...the RMS is perfect....but if you plan on jamming with friends you'll want a better amp.....
I have a great small 30 watt cube amp made by Roland. I usually haul it around to friends house's while jamming for fun...the amp cost me about 250.00...but it's a great little amp....
I also tend to practice through this amp quite a bit....

guitar4life - 6/18/2004 at 03:48

thanks ricoboc, but since i am only getting started with guitar, i will probably be practicing close to 100% of the time, so would u recommend sticking with the 12w practice amp and moving to a better amp later on? also, what wattage would u recommend for this better amp?

ricoboc - 6/18/2004 at 05:13

I have a 20 watt RMS, I find thgis to be a good wattage for practice...I paid 75.00 for it..it was dirt cheap...It has a headphone jack...a distortion button....
It's not the best amp in the world....but it's perfect to practice on...I have it sitting in my front room next to my Schecter....so any time I go to turn the T.V on I see my amp ang guitar and always have the urge to play a bit.....

I think they sell RMS amps at this site...take a look at the products page....good luck..

They sell a Gorilla amp which is similar to my practice amp...take a look at the link..

What Ricoboc has suggested will be fine for your needs, you can always upgrade once you get into gigging.
A friend of mine has an Orange Crush 15w, it a great little amp and well worth looking into.
It was £75, not sure what that equates to in dollars, but it's still a good cheap amp

kails - 6/28/2004 at 19:03

this is SUCH a stupid question... what is an amp? does it make your guitar louder

Telefreak - 6/29/2004 at 00:22

amp = amplifier.
The thing you plug an electric guitar into so that you can hear it

kails - 6/29/2004 at 02:47

oh lol i see!
THANKS TELEFREAK!

afiJULIAafi - 6/29/2004 at 21:18

i think if you already have a guitar then the pack is pointless, you can go to a pirvately owned shop and get an amp for cheep. i got one for 150, 100 wat peavey, with foot switch . used, you can get picks for about 15 to 50 cents, you can get strings for about 15$ and wires for anywhere btween 7 adn 20 and 50, depends on how good. i think its cheeper to just get the stuff indevidually.
good luck, and if youe ver find a place called " Mid Canada Music" (if you live in canada) GO THERE!!!! good pirces, nice people! all around great! i got my amp there and my guitar was 225, and its a sg special epiphone gibson make. 2 pickup, 2 knobs, volume and tune. PERFECT condition,.... soo nice!

hello2day - 6/30/2004 at 01:43

Keep this in mind....

Your first guitar...

Probably the most important consideration, when choosing what type of guitar to learn on, is what type of music will be played on the instrument. If you're a fan of country music, and want to learn to play country guitar, starting on the acoustic guitar would be the most logical choice. Rock guitar... electric etc. The importance of this philosophy can't be stressed enough. If you get stuck with the wrong type of guitar, you're going to have much less motivation to pick it up and play it regularly.

guitar4life - 6/30/2004 at 19:27

i have already decided on electric for that same reason, hello2day, it was the question of the worthiness of the package, i got the package because i felt i could upgrade on the amp later thanks everyone

VelvetRevolver14 - 7/2/2004 at 21:36

I think you got jewed with the guitar but if you want to just play fet the package but if you have the money get a wicked amp
