Can you convert music writen for guitar for bass? If so how would be best play on guitar then toy with bass to match the sound or can you match by notes?

Reason for my question I love clasical music on an electric guitar. I am learning to play BASS my son plays Guitar. I want to match what he plays not just play background bass.
