hey, i'm bobby, and i've been playing guitar for about 9 months now... I play every single day, and everybody says that I am learning really fast. But recently I've been stuck at the same level of playing.

I feel like im getting to a stage where i'm almost out of the "beginner" stage of learning to play guitar. But i'm kindof stuck right now...
i've pretty much mastered the power cord and cords like G A D C Cadd9 and stuff like that.
I can play a few songs all the way through, from bands like greenday, taking back sunday, the ataris, and paramore.
I recently learned how to alternate pick, and i can now play some faster picking songs like 187 by senses fail and sweet child of mine by guns and roses.

i've been stuck at this level for a long time now and I was wondering if anyone could give me any ideas on where to go from here?......

Harder songs to try?(not too hard)
different techniques?...

thanks,
~bobby

Can you play the entire lead guitar to sweet child of mine?...if you can than thats great however its just the beginning to what you need to learn...first of all learning should not be practice...not saying practice is not important however if you have to practice something it usually means you are forcing yourself to learn and or experience something that doesnt come naturally to you....not saying thats good or bad however if its not fun to learn and or to play then whats the point of doing it to begin with.

Modern music is easy to play and does not challenge a guitar player at all...when I say challenge I dont just mean lead guitar however if you want to be an awesome guitarist then lead guitar and or the roots of lead guitar are essential.

You need to learn blues lead guitar...Why do you need to learn blues lead guitar?...its simple...the older you become as a guitar player the more you realize its not how many notes you play or how fast you play however its the right note at the right time that makes music special...having said that i can say Im not a huge blues fan...just like a lot of music it can sound the same a lot of the time...the thing that is important about blues is emotion...regardless if you play fast or slow emotion is an important part of music and this only becomes stronger the older a player gets.

Also its important to write ones own songs as much as possibe and if you have a way of recording it then all the better...record all songs you write in the beginning of your guitar playing becasue thats when your most innocent with barriers and or walls to cross.

Here is an aewsome blues instrumental which is not to hard and will help in the emotion part of playing...its cool to play other peoples music but never forget that when it comes to writing youe own tunes emotion is key if you want your music to be classic and last forever.

Here is a song called hideway...its not hard however its cool and a guitar player can learn something even though its second or third hand.

Learn your pentatonics. There's 5 positions or Box patterns that are movable in any key.
