Hey, I got a bottleneck for Christmas, and I'm just starting to get into it. I was just wondering how many other people here use a bottleneck. I was also wondering what tunings people use. I'm using standard right now because I can easily access major and minor chords without changing my tuning (so I can take the slide off and play normally.) However, I would really like to have a seventh chord available. Could i tune the "A" down to a "G#" and have an E7 without the fifth, or would this sound ugly?

You can do whatever your heart desires if it sounds good to you. Try Open D for starters...

we have a couple of files on different tunings...

Good luck

I've tried open G, but I'm playing on electric, so I get a completely different sound than if I played on accoustic (but I can go REALLY HIGH!!!!). I think I'll have to learn some Joe Walsh songs, if they aren't too hard. Does anyone know of guitarists who use slides for rock?

I think i saw Jimmy Page use a slide in one of his live vids. I'm pretty sure he was in the standard E tuning but i haven't watched it in years and i think i gave it to a friend, i'll try to dig it out for you but if i remember correctly then it was a ten minute solo and i kicked rump something awfull.

Rock on, Rock Hard and Rock Heavy!!!
