Just be real... Talk about what you been through, you know tell a story. No one likes a 12 year old kid singing about how he's been through the mill and back with wormen. :giggly:

Try the dictionary...just open it randomly and see what words your eyes land on...then read the meaning...use a thesaurus also.

This is a great tool for learning new things and then making up a song about it.

Online dictionary and thesaurus...
http://thesaurus.reference.com/search?q=fire

For instance I want to use the word "Fire" in a song however I want a better lyric for it...I go to the thesaurus and type in fire...which leads me to the word "enkindle"...which sounds much better than fire.

Just some different ways of working on lyrics...try it.

Keep it simple. Some of the best bands that have withstood the test of time, and the Cinderella story have kept it simple.

1. Kiss... Millionaires that kept it simple (ever played one of their guitar solos, boring, simple, but sells millions of copies.)

2. AcDc... Same album made ten times over just with a different title. You can play any AcDc song if you know 3-5 basic chords.
Been around for decades.

3. Metallica... The 80-90's version of Black Sabbath. Power chords for days ( at least in the early years) Kirk Hammett wore out that wah-wah pedal on every solo he played. If you look at alot of the early years tablature; Hammet continiously repeated himself on his guitar solos album after album...I should know I stole alot of his stuff for my own solos in my garage band days :giggly:
But they kept it simple; and there still around.

4. Keep it simple so the average joe that could care less about your guitar ability can relate with it.
The average rockin roller relates to three things...can you guess them? Its been the motto for rock and roll for ages.

Sex,drugs and rock n roll

I agree that most people dont care how complicated a song is...thats why I keep things simple and straight forward however I do like to have a twist in the song...it could be a solo that doesnt really follow the songs progression then comes back to the song afterwards...Van Halen kind of does this...when he starts a solo its not the same progression that the song was...its like a song within a song...its tricky to do and most times I actually play a lead then fill some chords underneath to make sense of what I just played however eventually you have to lead back into the song and make it seamless...not easy to do however when you do it its pretty cool.
