Learning to play a song and how it affects you?

What does that mean exactly...well for me it means relief in that I acomplished the task at hand...then I play it for a day or sometimes a week or two...then comes disapointment...Here is why.

I will learn a tune Ive liked in the past however after learning it I loose some of the mystery and I am no longer really drawn to that song much anymore and I rarely listen to it at all...it seems odd however I tend to try and not learn my all time favorites so I can still enjoy them and not loose the mystery.

Is there anyone else that shares this type of view when learning songs?

I just stay happy.
I'm not agood guitarist, so i'm happy that I can play other peoples songs, I usually stick to my own stuff

Learning other peoples songs KILLS the song for me. Once I know the secret, all the magic is gone.

I think learning to play someone else's song is a good thing, even though you may be leanring there magic, you feel inspired to play because you know you can do it..but thats just my oppion....everyone has there own one of thoughs.

I agree that learning other peoples songs is inspiring and fun however after you play that song and get inspired for a few days or weeks then the song is not as special any more...I agree with what you said however over time it ruins it as a fan to learn a song no matter how fun and or inspiring it was to learn at that moment in time...It wears off and then your left with basically being sick of that song.

I don't feel that way myself. There are songs that for ages I've thought 'I wanna play that song', and then when you can, I get a feeling like 'Yeah, I'm improving!' I then play that over and over again, till it's perfect. Still, it doesn't take away the magic of the original, because there's a part of me every time I hear it that says 'Hey I CAN PLAY THAT!!', case in point, Stairway to Heaven

Yeah learning certain songs affect people in different ways... stairway is a cool song.

Even if it is banned from just about every guitar shop. We've all got great points here. My opinion is that when i lean a new song i find new ways and new riffs to build my own songs. I don't know how much of my stuff is just little pieces taken from other songs. I mean, for example, a lot of the stuff i write on piano is pretty similar to some of the riffs used by Evenesance (we all have opinions on them so let's not even go there). After learning a song i'll hear it on the radio and be like "sweet!" but it does take its toll after a little while.

It depends on the song. If I just learned something really simple (songs that are only power chords), I find it slightly dissapointing, because it took little work/effort for me to learn. If I haven't worked hard to learn it, I feel like I haven't accomplished that much. If I'm learning something absolutely classic, and/or something really difficult, I get this immense sense of satisfaction. I'm still not tired of all the songs I've learned because I can jam along to the record.
