Hey hows it going. I just bought a cheapo squire of Ebay and Im planning to make a replica of George Harison's "Rocky" (pic's http://www.deaf-eddie.net/rocky/rockscan.jpg , http://www.deaf-eddie.net/rocky/rocky-hd.jpg http://www.deaf-eddie.net/rocky/rocky-bk.jpg ). I was wondering if anyone has ever done a paint job on a guitar and give me some tips. Some of my concerns are... Should I strip it and sand the whole thing down to the wood and paint it, or should I not? what type of paint should I use? What type of laquer/finish should I use?

Any comments/suggestions would be awsome. Thanks alot.

If it was me I would strip it down to the wood and put a sanding sealer on. It depends what kind of wood is used. You can use the same paint they use at body shops and spray polyurethane on top of that. Many people also like the vintage way of doing things and use nitrocellulose lacquer. Also make sure you wet sand it if you want the mirror like finish.

Hope this helps

I think there are many ways you could this, depending on if you want to refinish the whole guitar. I have even painted straight on my guitar and then given it a light coat over it once dried..

As far as designs go, I found some funky artwork guitars here

The guitars are rated based purely on looks
