hippomofatumas - 8/3/2004 at 18:19 hi all. i currently but super slinkies on my dinky squier, dont worry i
have plans to change, but are those the best? im into rock, classic rock,
metal, newish stuff, but sometimes i stray into funk cause of my boss pw-10
vwah its the best wah by the by get it! so anyone got any reccomendations
as to what i should put on my guitar? thanks
hippomofatumas
tattoo - 8/3/2004 at 18:40I like using pure nickel for the classic stuff and blues. The pure nickel
has a smoother tone. I go with the nickel wound for a brighter sound for
rock, metal. I like Ernie Ball strings, Fender and sometimes use DR
Strings.
I use 10 guage strings
Telefreak - 8/3/2004 at 23:16It's all a matter of opinion, try them all and decide which ones you like
best.
Tattoo seems to know what he's talking about when it comes to guitars, but
my oppinion on strings differs.
I hate Fender strings, all I've had with them is fret buzz, annoying
rattles and premature breakage, I prefer Ernie balls, but that's just
me.
Everyone is different, and nobody can tell you what you like
chrisC - 8/3/2004 at 23:50Dean Markley Blue Steels are my personal favorites. they have great long
lasting tone.
brian - 8/4/2004 at 18:31DR Pure Blues 10's work for me.
I also like Ernie Ball, D' Addario strings
Spidercents - 8/5/2004 at 04:04Ive bought so many sets of strings I would have to say price is my
motivation.I dont want to pay alot. The expensive strings always snaped or
broke easier and more often.Maybe because they sit on the shelves for
longer.Do strings go bad before their opened?I think they do.I have no
proof and never read for an expiry date.Do strings have an expiry
date.Someone answer this so I can forget about it and move on.Thanks
hippomofatumas - 8/5/2004 at 12:54i guess theyd expire if theyre in a real humid environment, but i dont know
of too many outdoor guitar string sales stands. hehe. i think i am going to
stay mainly with ernie balls and just play about a bit with the gauges, but
not too high cause then u enter the terrible LAND WHERE YOU HAVE TO ADJUST
YOUR TRUSS ROD! ahhh. i wanna try elixers too they look good. soon ill be
gettin an acoustic whats the best overall string for an acoustic? any
advice on banjo, mandolin, and ukelele strings as well? thanks a bunch.
Spidercents - 8/5/2004 at 15:28I use GHS for my acoustic because their cheap and sound pretty good for the
price. There are better strings however they cost to much and are only a
little bit better for a lot more dosh.
Telefreak - 8/5/2004 at 23:27I use Martin extra lights on my acoustic.
I need then light because I do alot of bends, I guess I play my acoustic
like an electric :giggly:
telejr - 8/6/2004 at 03:50I'll tell you what - Darco's are about the worst strings ever -
bar none ! !
Martin's used to stink, but now they're really great on accoustics.
For my electricts, I like Markley or D'Adarios.
How about those Elixer's? I just put them on my old Gibson accoustic and
they seem pretty darn good. THey've been on since late June and are still
fresh sounding. THe price is pretty salty though they seem worth it.
tattoo - 8/6/2004 at 13:36Elixer's are cool just too expensive. Besides I like changing strings. Sick
uhhh.
chrisC - 8/6/2004 at 14:58this is kinda funny. someone wants to know whats the difference between
strings, and then everyone (including me) tells him what kind of strings
they use without answering his question. so i will try and answer for him.
there really isnt much of a difference between strings. the more expensive
ones usually sound better and last longer but depending on how you feel
might not be worth the extra price. ernie balls are good strings. there not
expensive but they still sound good. if your happy with them theres no need
to change. but i do recomend that you try a few types of strings before you
permanetly stick with one choice.
Spidercents - 8/6/2004 at 15:21ChrisC is ranting about nothing again.People havent used every string so
most of us dont know the difference between every string. All we can do is
tell him about what we like and then let him decide for him or herself.
Guitar101 - 8/6/2004 at 15:45It's pretty simple.
In most cases unless your prefer otherwise
Nickel Wound = Rock,Metal.... (Bright Sound, In your face )
Pure Nickel Wound = Classic Rock,Blues,Jazz Rock... (Less bright,Creamy)
Flat Wound = Blues,Jazz etc.... ( Dark Mellow Sound)
There's strings that come in chrome, stainless steel, gold plated and
more.
There on the same lines as the Nickel Wound Bright Sound.
I didn't cover all of them but this is the basics...
chrisC - 8/6/2004 at 16:06i never said i used every string. dont make yourself look stupid because
you want to attempt to embarass me. its not working.
Guitar101 - 8/6/2004 at 16:21I love the tension
Shut up and play already :giggly:
Spidercents - 8/6/2004 at 16:41I never said that you did ChrisC.That was my statement that not everyone
tried every string.Your so angry. Why are you so angry.
chrisC - 8/6/2004 at 17:06it all started when i was 7....

Spidercents - 8/12/2004 at 20:12Welcome to the forum hippo.I buy the cheapest strings possiable.
jumiko - 11/15/2007 at 13:20I bought two sets of Dean Markley Yngwie’s Magic 8815, resulting in guitar
with five DM strings and 1 GHS Boomer spare.
I turned to this particular set because the intriguing set of gauges. They
seemed to answer my yearnings and rid me of buying single strings in order
to build me a set.
Upon installation of the first DM 8815 set, the so called “Yngwie's
projectile end” of the fourth string came clean off when I was just
beginning to tighten the string up – it was way below the Db I normally
tune to. It broke so easily it almost just fell off. Swearing, I turned to
the second set I was unfortunate enough to have purchased, took out the
fourth string, installed it, started tightening, and lo – same thing.
Aghast, I kept installing the rest of the set and just guess what took
place with the first string? Exactly the same. Thus I was forced to take
the first string out of the second set as well and left waiting for Monday
to get me a spare 4th. So much for recording guitar tracks that day.
Yes, of course I have complained to Banzai Musical Products in Germany,
where I ordered my strings from, and Dean Markley in U.S.A. Logically, they
owe me six or more sets of these strings, since two sets obviously can’t
produce six strings for my guitar. I requested both of them for details as
to how will I get compensation, but I seriously doubt they will get back to
me since it has already been pending for quite some time. Unfortunately,
such arrogant, ignorant and irresponsible customer service seems to be of
standard these days, doesn’t it?
What makes it so enormously frustrating is the fact that the feel and the
sound of these strings are probably the best I’ve ever had – they really
make my Fender Stratocaster sing.
I know it’s only two sets of strings, but I should imagine each and every
guitarist wishes to buy strings knowing they won’t let you down straight
out of the package, were it one set, two sets or 100 sets. 25 years of
guitar and never have I encountered such low standard of quality control
and craftsmanship. Two faulty sets in a row. I am never going to make the
mistake of buying anything Dean Markley again, lest they come forward with
acceptable explanation and adequate compensation. I have to admit that I
had slightly high hopes for Dean Markley what comes to quality, but here we
are. Rubbish.
Similar experience? Let’s boycott.
