Minor 7th Arpeggios

In this Lesson we will look at some Minor 7th Arpeggios. As Mentioned in the previous Major 7th Arpeggio lesson, we said an Arpeggio was playing a chord one note at a time rather then all at once. First let's look at a basic arpeggio in the key of A Minor.

Major 7 Arpeggios

In this Lesson we will look at Major 7th Arpeggios. An Arpeggio is playing a chord one note at a time instead of strumming at once. I'm sure there's a more technical definition of what an arpeggio is but mine is in layman's terms. Let's get started.

The Double Harmonic Scales

The double harmonic scale can be represented by the following notes c,d flat, e, f, g, ab, b. This is the only prime scale that is not proper, and with three types of second (major, minor and augmented) it is a melodically rough scale.

International Scales And Modes

For all you scale and mode buffs out there here's a list of all well known International Scales and Modes. The Chart list each Scale Degree, Semitone Structures etc.

Harmonic Minor Scale And Chord Theory

The harmonic minor scale has just one tonally effective mode and that is the scale conventionally known as the harmonic minor scale. It is spelled, in numerical form relative to the major scale.

Mode Chord Relationships

In this lesson we will look at how to use modes over chords, and how to combine modes for different harmonic ideas. Now the basic theory about playing modes and scales over chords is that the all the notes in the chord must be in the scale if you want to avoid clashing notes. Obviously this gives a huge scale choice over something like a minor chord.

The Oriental Mode

Welcome to the mystical world of the Oriental Mode. Here is a mode that when used sparingly can sound very moody and exotic. It is the II mode of the Hungarian Minor Scale.

The Harmonic Minor Scale

Many of you might know this scale from the 80's widdle-fest which was "neo-classical" metal. This is Yngwie Malmsteen's favorite mode, as it is used extensively throughout classical music.

Mode Lessons And The Hindu Scale

A mode is simply a scale which consists of the same notes as the main scale, e.g major but using a different root note. This changes its interval structure and therefore its sound.

Finger Tapping Keyboard Style - Part 1

Most if us know the style of finger tapping that Eddie Van Halen introduced back in 1977-78. This style of tapping was played over and over back in the 80's. In this lesson I will show you what I call a keyboard style finger tapping. It's much more interesting and truly a breathe of fresh air!
