Does anyone know if it's possible to fit an A string from a bass guitar on a six string electric? I'm guessing the machine head would need to be changed etc but would it be tunable to bass E and would it be playable???

The string would be to big for the nut,saddle and tuning machine. Better to get a smaller gauge.
